Songs of One Household

Dante Gabriel Rossetti

General Description

Scholarly Commentary

When The Germ was launched in 1850, DGR planned to write a series of poems under this general title. Like My Sister's Sleep, the only poem actually written for the series, they were to have contemporary settings. The series evidently was to run a parallel and contrast with another series, the Songs for the Art Catholic, which DGR had conceived in 1847. It seems likely that Holman Hunt may have influenced DGR in the idea for the second series (see Fredeman, Correspondence 48. 7.
