WMR first published this fragment in his edition of 1911, but added the following note: “I am unable to say whether this jotting of verse, which I find in my brother's handwriting, is his own composition, or copied from some book. I assume the former”. WMR found the text in the British Library small Notebook 2.
See as well the other French fragment WMR assigns to DGR, “Il faut que tu le tiennes pour dit”.
