Not much is known of this jeu that DGR wrote to Elizabeth. WMR does not comment on the apparent fact that “Orson” was one of her pet names for DGR. As WMR's note to the poem in 1911 observes, the poem was written when DGR was working in his rooms in Chatham Place, Blackfriars, with his view of St. Paul's. Line 32 references the arm chair in DGR's flat where she sat when DGR would sketch her (as in the pen and ink drawing now at Yale).
If WMR is right in dating the poem 1855, then DGR would have written it on 15 February. No manuscript is known.
