This poem is by William Fulford. It is written in blank verse, and is
certainly indebted to Wordsworth. The theme of this poem — looking
back to childhood as “the gate of life” — recalls
Wordsworth’s “Ode: Intimations of
Immortality”, particularly in Fulford’s image of
childhood as “the Paradise / Whence ye departed”.
